    Muzzle Covers

Bill Ricca-Great info on muzzle cover manufacturers. Went and checked out my three. Noticed that all but Kanak made them in 1944. Perhaps. like the M4 bayonets made in 44", that they just didn't reach everyone who was deployed. I can't recall ever seeing photos either. SKIP

But, if you look really close, you might see a condom or two. The covers were just one more thing to keep up with, whereas the condoms were issued on a regular basis.
I think there's a really interesting story there but the guys who went ashore are dwindling in numbers. All too fast...
Next time you see a video of a landing, look really close.
And if you know a landing vet, just ask him. We gotta grab all the info we can while we can.

Can you email me pictures of each? Need pictures as they come out of the camera, un-edited.

    Jim,
I had a WLMC1944 too and gave it away. (I figured with your extensive collection of web gear you'd come up with a few others.)

I know you have many, many different magazine pouches ("Stock pouches") of different manufacturers, dates and material. I know it would take a long while but would you consider taking photos of them for the records? I don't know if there's been a web page with photos of mag pouches but you must have the most extensive collection of all.

Bill...not too long ago I missed an ebay auction of a batch of muzzle covers. This group contained several that were khaki color and marked A-G CORP. over 1944. They looked legit to me, but were the only examples of this marking I have seen. I have examples of every marking mentioned in this thread except LAIRD SCHOBER 1944. I saved pics of the auction items if you want me to send them to you, but they are are not very detailed. Ron

I've had muzzle covers on my USGI rifles for decades. Properly cleaned and lubricated after firing and the barrels have never shown any sign of rusting or pitting. Keeps the dust out too. YMMV but mine has been good.

In Riesch, 5th edition, p. 14 he shows a pic of his father on Saipan circa 1945with a muzzle cover on his carbine.

I've seen another pic of an MP directing traffic at a crossroads somewhere in Europe before VE day. He had a carbine slung over his shoulder with a muzzle cover on it. Wish I could remember where I saw that one.
