Thanks chosenman would the PM spec be the same as an L96A1. Is it correct to say a PM serail number would have been for police use?

I've done a lot of research into these and generally the PM serial numbers were police issue however the records at Accuracy International are very good and if you call them with the serial number they can confirm in a matter of minutes who the rifle was issued to.
What I can tell you is that there are very few in civilian ownership for some reason.

Steve, the spec is identical. The early PM variants were trialled by the Air Service which contributed to the MOD taking an interest, furthermore the Air Service referred to their snipers as PM snipers long after the L96A1 came in to service. The SN prefix of PM was predominantly the deviding feature between police and military rifles however the MOD contract was complete in 1986 and I know of several military rifles that carried 90's dates and the PM prefix which I presume were late replacements off AI's shelf.
