I purchased my Bren tripod cheap because someone had cut both top tubes in half in an attempt to make an "Airborne Bren Tripod" which evidently hadn't proved 100% successful as it kept falling apart and it wouldn't stay upright. Somehow during the "conversion process" or at some point after, before I acquired it, some of the accessories had been lost such as the traverse ring and the T. and E. gear, to name but two. I've got pretty much all of the missing parts now except the traverse ring and the upper part of the AA extension pole.

I thought while there’s discussion of tripods, I’d post up some rough serial number to mark changes as I suspect the OPs tripod actually started life as a Mk1* from the way he describes it.
BSA Production
1937 Mk1 A1 to A400 approx
1938 Mk1 A401 to A7000 approx
1939 Mk1 A7001 to C3400 approx
1940 Mk1 C3401 to F3000 approx
1941 Mk1 F1000 to H4650
1941 Mk1* H4651 to H8000 approx
1942 Mk1* H8001 to i5700 approx
1942 Mk2 i5701 to J9999 approx
1943 Mk2 K1 to K9999 approx
1944 Mk2 L1 to L5000 approx
1944 Mk2* L5001 to L5200 approx
1945 Mk2* L5201 to L5700 approx
Until the Dunkirk evacuation the tripods were being produced at one per gun but that soon changed in late 1940 and production slowed right off.

Did Bren tripods get made post WW2 or was there enough in stocks?

There were plenty in stock for the very minor post war requirement.

Wow, that's a lot of tripods. I'm guessing that the "B" numbers started in after A9999? Change over ever 9999?
MAJOR THANKS for sharing this.
Of course I have to ask what other companies were making them?? This was just the BSA offering.
THANKS

Yes after A9999 came B1 and so on.
Other manufacturers include Canadian Cycle and Motor (CCM) and Australian General Electric (AGE). ZB also made a similar version (V rare) and I would hazard a guess that Enfield probably made a few early on but there’s zero evidence of that.

Would you Please post up a pic of each type of marking? One for the normal BSA, one for CCM and AGE. That would be really helpful. I think all of mine are BSA just not sure.

Bren Tripod serial number. This is a Bren Tripod that I picked up at Knob Creek a few years ago. It has 2 holes on the outside of the left tube, no grip holder. Adjustable front leg with Bren gun holder piece on it. Slot for AA pole or Enfield, as seen in pic. Holes in the back leg bolts, but no capture or release pin or spring or pull knob. The serial # is C 9 7 2 4 followed by several symbols and 41 and triangle 29. Hope that the pic shows up ok as it is of a smaller size due to phone pic emailed to email address then download to hard drive then posted.
Update - Seems to work.

I believe that this is the front tripod in this group. Front left yellowish color.
