Louis of PA. Here is my take on what has been happening and why we are at milsurps. Again I must state, this is my guess and I do not have any facts to back it up.
From what I have read, Dick and Gloria are in difficult time of their life due to health reasons. The old CSP board was going down the tubes due to spam and the age of the system. I have read several times that Dick and Gloria made arrangements for us here rather than shut down CSP completely. Several times I have seen the word temporary used. I can therefore think of several things that can happen. If and when Dick and Gloria get on their feet they have plans for a complete new system/program format. Or, if they find that they are unable to do so, they made arrangements for the possibility of a new home for CSP here.
Although I have also read that the Forum belongs to Dick and Gloria and also said it was the posters forum and we could run it as we wish, and changes or no changes would be OK'd by Dick and Gloria, I take it that we are still guests of Milsurps until told otherwise. I make that assumption based only on what I have read and I could be off base. This is my conclusion and I thank those associated with Milsurps for their generosity, the welcome mat they have rolled out and assistance given to me and others new to this format.
I repeat, it is only an opinion and conclusion.
And Louis, I don't know how you are finding all of the articles/stories you are posting. You seem to be the eyes and ears of the internet funneling the info to us. Any chance of your being a retired investagative reporter? Good Job in my opinion and I welcome more.

Not trying to be difficult or anything
I was looking at the list of forums and descriptions of same from this sight and thought the following copied directly from that source would be relevent to the subject being discussed.
"Gun Talk
"Cracker Barrel" forum for general conversations about guns, politics, OT (off topic), or whatever ..."
that does not seem to indication limitation of only to firearms

John,
Thank you for enlightening me that the Dick & Gloria connection remains with us, though in much altered form. I respect their founding of the Jouster Forums, and admire their persistence.
Life comes at all of us at one time or another, but it's sad to learn that it's been coming at them pretty harshly these days.
I recognize that these new Milsurp hosts (and hostesses?) are doing a fine job of accomodating us unruly mugs from CSP Jouster. This format has some advantages, especially with regard to type formatting. The CSP Forums though, had a unique appeal in that I could easily see the responses stacked below the original post, along with who posted them. Also, the type size of the headline and text was much larger, important to me.
It also made it easier to post my periodic photo-historical essays, as I did with my aunt Jane's photo album from her duty as a nurse at base and field hospitals in France during World War One, and later with my Normandy visit, and my ride just last year in a B-17.
These windows for posting here are pretty dinky, and so I always enlarge the type face of my postings. And, this new GunTalk is laced up pretty tightly to meet their SOP. It had been a great place to find or to post topics of varied interest; weapons, history, political, humor, news and the like; truly "Cracker Barrel".
Your kind comments about my postings are very much appreciated. I've been a reader all my life, always interested in World War II history especially, as well as other military topics.
On the old GunTalk, someone was always interested in reading such things, and when I do visit or photograph stuff of interest, I generally know that some of it will find an audience on GunTalk. Because I knew there were many Vets on the old GunTalk, I drove into the city to visit and photograph the Vietnam and Korean Memorials in Philadelphia, specifically for posting there.
I'm not a reporter in the sense you asked; I am in industrial marketing and advertising, a field where attention to details is vital, coupled with the primary need of being clear, and, where possible, supporting the story with graphics.
I doubt I could stand being a "reporter" today; journalistic standards have been supplanted by ideology-driven propagandists, with some notable exceptions. But if this recession continues - it's hit my clients very hard - I might apply for the job of writing speeches for The Big O's TelePrompter.
Below is a portion of Aunt Jane's album, in case you missed them on the CSP 1903 forum.
Thanks again for your nice comments.

I have no idea how she came to have this photo. There was an aerodrome adjacent to her hospital, and perhaps one of the pilots gave it to her … or gave her a ride over the trenches; who knows.
Biplane
Battle of Vimy Ridge explosions
I’d love to know how she came to have this photo too.

Louis,
Thanks for the post.
There's got to be some truly interesting stories behind those pics.
Thanks again,

Phil,
I appreciate your comment.
My Aunt Jane McNulty (great aunt), came from Scranton; that side of the family came over and dug anthracite coal. Somehow got hooked up with the Flanagans from Philadelphia.
She became a nurse during a time when "nice" middle class women did not do such a thing. In 1906, she hopped a train for California and helped out victims of the earthquake that destroyed San Francisco.
In 1917, she joined up, got commissioned and, in 1918, sailed to France, to serve in various hospitals until the end of the war.
I regret not having the opportunity to learn more from her. But perhaps she would not have wished to recall those days; the flu was raging and killed more of our troops than we lost in that war; it also killed my mother's mother that October; no church services, no public gatherings of any kind, and coffins became unobtainable.
I'm having a devil of a time posting the links; some sort of glitch either with Photobucket or with MilSurp, but here are a few more. In future, I'll try to post more of that story, with photos, probably on the 1903 forum since this stuff is no longer SOP for GunTalk.
Regards and thanks,
Louis of PA

Sorry....I suppose I should have made it "gender-neutral", but I actually dealt with a VERY similar "real-world" situation in our community library....and the offending individual was more or less female! "Librarian's Syndrome" is something all engineers learn about as undergrads!

While I didn't post much over the years, the CSP board and one other that are
basic bulletin boards were two of the ones that I most often went to. The main
advantage to this format is not having to 'open' every reply to thread that doesn't
describe the content underlying it, i.e you'd have 15 replies all with the same title,
here you do have to scroll thru them but it's easier to use after you get used to it.
You can adjust the font size with the ctr and +/- buttons. I'm sure I'm not alone in
that certain aspects of CSP were my only interests and perhaps ignored the rest of
the board, I doubt much will change for me in that regard, but I'm happy that the
group can remain connected.

Here's the mini-title for my post ......

Each thread has a main theme title. However, not a lot of people realize that each of their replies can have a mini-title, similar to the old Jouster. Next time anyone uses the "Reply" option, look at the top of the white typing space and you'll see a blank field called title. That's where anyone can put in an optional secondary title that appears above their post, within the main thread.
Second, if anyone prefers the old site's style of showing threads, here's a trick for those who want to switch this new site back to something similar to that old Jouster style of thread presentation. Open up any thread and then look up to the right of the very FIRST post in the thread and you'll see a button called Display Modes.
Click on it and test out the different looks to see if there's one you're more comfortable with, as opposed to the default Linear Mode mode.
There's one called Threaded Mode that's very close to Jouster's old style ...
Hope this helps people along the learning curve ..

Badger

That's correct, but that's new in the last day ...
We changed it after we were informed by some members here that the original description Forum for general conversations about guns was incorrect and that it was an open "Cracker Barrel" forum for general conversations about guns, politics, OT (off topic), or whatever ...

To restate what we've said consistently over the last three weeks in various posts .....
When Gloria gets here and if she wants to move back to the old genre software on a different server, we'll help her to accomplish that. Remember, we only agreed to be a place holder to help save her site before the Unix box completely collapsed. I've told her in several conversations that her CSP community is welcome to stay here for free as our guests, for as long as they want, or until she decides if there's someplace else she'd like to take it. We're only an interim host for CSP, NOT the owners of it... the ownership, legacy and future belongs to Dick and Gloria to decide. If for some reason the Culvers are unable to get here to deal with those decisions, then we will be asking the CSP community to put together a committee to decide the future of their own community.
In the interim, we hired a systems guru who's one of the best in the business in regards to Unix, to organize the old server and back it up in a focused and structured manner, so we could get all of the old data, articles and pics off of it, to help guarantee and preserve Dick and Gloria's old site legacy.
After looking at it, he said he was surprised it was still running and he hadn't seen anything that convoluted in 20 years. He commented "I can certainly do this, it's going to take some time though. That server is a mess and there's stuff all over the place. I would safely say that it's a very large job to go through the whole box and get everything pulled together. There does seem to be a lot of data and the way its laid out just makes it hard to find everything."
We're doing the best we can with limited resources while holding down a full time job to pay the bills ....
Hope that helps clarify things again for everyone ....
