Patrick, What book are you referring too when you say Ball, the Mauser Military Rifles of the World? There are a lot of versions and I've yet to buy one coz I keep spending my money on other things that go boom LOL. I'm not sure what you mean by bitsa.

It looks like this Uruguay Mauser

Not quite sure what you are saying ? No they are not an " original " Mauser anything . They were put together using surplus parts in Franceicon . How is the "barreled action " shortened ? The action is the normal length and it is a replacement barrel . Of my three , the two " long " rifles are in M-71 stocks that have been shortened a little , and my Short rifle is in a Very short M-71 stock . What stocks are your's in ?

OK, maybe I'm wrong. I'll put it a little more cautiously:

Of course you are correct - the barrel was a replacement, so I shouldn't make deductions fom its length.

What I observed was that the rifle shown does not match the configuration shown in Ball. If that was not the standard configuration, i.e. they were made up from whatever M71 or even M71/84 bits were lying around, then, of course, anything goes - and so in effect they were all "bitsas".

Sorry, 5th Edition. If you have an earlier edition you'll just have to search. And if you haven't got Ball at all, then there's a serious gap in your library.

You are correct, I've been planning to get one but the latest version is a bit out of my price range. Perhaps I'll settle for an older version.
