I don't know anything about the origins of the rifle in question or the off forum discussions but in my opinion, and as I always say, I could be wrong, but the H- marks are usually associated with Fazakerley production and the MoS inspectors (as opposed to the on site Enfield inspectors, who all became MoS later and then something else...........) marks were the usual two number - arrow - two letter type as shown by the 5?/arrow/PL
I'm waiting for some flak..................
I've just had a look at the photos the previous forumers were referring to. It LOOKS to me as though the rifle was inspected at a time of the changeover between the old Enfield examiners and the MoS. Maybe one of the historians out there can tell us when the old Ordnance factories fell under the wing of the MoS. Are you out there EFD?
I know tha the old Enfield examiners were known as 'examiners' and referred to the 'new' MoS people as mere 'inspectors'.Information
