Thank you all for the excellent information!! I had no idea that this thread would light up like it did. I hadn't checked it until this evening and wanted to thank you all for the overwhelming response and the detailed information.

This could be a tough one (and expensive) to track down!!

    Thanks to everyone!!

Unfortunately, BATFE Imports Branch won't approve the L96A1 for import to the USAicon because it's not a curio and relic. Military firearms can only be approved for civilian use if they're on the U.S. C&R list. Maybe they'll approve them as C&R's in another 25 years since they have to be 50 years old.

If they are ever surplus to requirements, they will be destroyed by mutilation, as per the various international agreements on this subject.

If you're still here Brian B and want an L96, there were a few that were never military. So you might find that an email/call to Fultons - as I suggested at the start, in your interest

    Brian,
Speak to Richard Stork at Devizes Guns the owner, I am sure he would love to do you a deal just before Christmas.
'Tonight my men and I have been through hell and back again, but the look on your faces when we let you out of the hall - we'd do it all again tomorrow.' Major Chris Keeble's words to Goose Green villagers on 29th May 1982 - 2 PARA

But it ain't an L96 - and never will be! It's like having a 2005 VW Beetle when you really want the real McCoy.......... a 1969 VW Beetle. Just my opinion of course!
