Hey Jim! I've got that book myself! Has some great examples of the Inland Heiroglyphics.....

Released 1979, but I don't think I got it until 1983 or 84. There are a lot of things in it I like. The scope mounting bars, cases, tools (I'm still looking for a complete reamer). At the time, other then FM23's, I thought it was the best thing out.

Sorry Topaz, that just rankled me.

I have JC Harrison's book. And it has some information that later with research was shown to be wrong. But it's not the worst.

The top prize for me goes to RC Larson's book showing all the repo parts.

I suspect it was a poorly worded comment, nothing more.

While Mr Dorrill was undoubtedly a fine man, he was doing some pretty unusual things with military firearms ( I have seen and held one of these weapons).

I'm reminded of a guitar thread I participated in many years back. The basic idea was, "what guitarist can you not figure out?" That's innocent enough, i suppose. After a bunch of other people posted their impressions, I chipped in the name of one guy whose work I just didn't get but who had had a respectable ride at the top of the Top-40 charts. I said this guitarist's solos just sounded like noise to me and I couldn't understand how he had ever gotten anywhere. Within minutes a guy posted a response that altered my way of thinking and posting forever. It seemed the poster was the cousin of the guitarist I mentioned. He had always looked up to his cousin as a big brother and had respected his playing and accomplishments for years. He was terribly hurt by my comments. I apologized for my remarks but I instantly wished I had never posted them and that there was some way to suck them back off the Internet. But there isn't, and my comments and their impact are now memorialized forever in the archives of that forum. Great.

What I learned from my mistake is that the Internet has made this big old world a much smaller place. Those names you see out there in the ether represent real people with real families and parents. Just because I don't have personal contact with a person doesn't mean my words won't. It is now possible to reach out and smack innocent people in the face with casual comments that have no ill intent. As a result, I'm quite a bit more circumspect with my comments and use the adage, "consider your words twice before posting."

Okay folks, I emailed Bob earlier and have received a reply. Bob is on vacation and is unable to post on the site and asked me to post the following:

Geez, when was that? I don't remember it, but if I said that, I'm sorry, it was thoughtless. My intention was to express relief that those fakes were no longer being made to hook the uninitiated, certainly no pleasure at his death. He served our country as a Marine, and I am grateful.

If you could post it, I'd appreciate it.

Judging by this email I am more than certain that Bob made this comment not intending to degrade Mr. Dorrill or his family. I trust that Bob will post here as soon as he is able to and I will let him explain further if that is needed. Thank you all.

Here's a pic of a carbine I saw at a gun show last fall, does it look like legitimate? I didn't look at it real closely because I'd just spent major $ on a 4 digit Garand at the same show but the rear sight sure looks like a repro in the pic.

Your picture for some reason reminded me of this stock I have.
Here's a WRA Type III stock with the Korean rack numbers on it. Has just a hint of a WRA CC, but someone along the way stamped this boxed G.H.D. stamp on it.
Which looks sooo similiar to a stamp Numrich sells.

Good solid, nice looking stock after being stripped. Still pondering if I should sand off the GHD stamp. Maybe try to steam/iron it out.

Charlie that sure looks like it's deep but maybe you could try and steam most of it out before you have to take half the stock off with sanding to remove it.
