Here you go...................medals bought not earned, people collect stamps I collect Walter Mitty files, as they NEVER go away, only to surface somewhere else years later!!! Some may call that sad, but through my experience these people do not desist.
The Misrepresentation of Uniforms Act 1894 has now been repealed and covered in many areas of the law under different headingS.
The MOD statement says it all:
"Activities such as this can lead to public confidence in Military Charities being undermined"
......................not withstanding a disgrace to all those real soldiers who died to give this man his freedom, to be able to do what he did!!

'Tonight my men and I have been through hell and back again, but the look on your faces when we let you out of the hall - we'd do it all again tomorrow.' Major Chris Keeble's words to Goose Green villagers on 29th May 1982 - 2 PARA

There is - or was - also a bit of unease in the UK
Military about these private collections and dubious organisations collecting. Some are well meaning and have raised big money and kudos for their founders...... no names, no pack drill here....... and have funded re-hab centres, aid for this, that and the other. But the feeling within was that these are all very well, for now, but it should be the Government and the Forces themselves that should be FULLY funding these things and looking after their men and women properly. Some of the large charities who were also large donors through their lodges and memberships have raised these points recently too. And if the govt ain't doing it now, what will they do in the future?
It's very hard NOT to donate to a tin-shaker wearing a a Corps cap badge and I always do. But the feeling is never far away. The main ones, the RSL's, Brit Legion etc etc that have stood the test of time are above all of these comments of course. Thorny problem but it is being talked about.

I just can't understand the thought process that leads to someone thinking it's a good idea playing dress up...

ive always said. place a small tax at the end of year on our income. sort of the type which i dont give to (democratic or republican donation )on income tax forms we fill out each year. and let that money go to helping the disabled vets that have defended our country, same fund could help the widows of our fallen police officers . who ever heard of a TAX PAYER wanting to be taxed ,i bet theirs a lot of us that would.

Not favorable. I'm a vet and know for a fact our gov't would pocket that, we's so heavily overtaxed now that more would be unfavorably looked upon by all...
But that's not what we're talking about here...

On a more humourous note Gill and others, can you imagine a scene in a local magistrates court where a bit of a jacks-the-lad is up before the beak to answer a charge of wearing a uniform in public, where it is alleged that he wasn't entitled to.
Judge: " Mr Iver Biggun......, how do you answer the charge of wearing your uniform in public when you have never served..."
IB 'Not guilty mu-lud....."
J: But you were wearing it, prancing about wearing it...., we have photos of you. Fancy uniform and awash with medals. What have you got to say......"
IB: Well, there's nothing wrong with dressing up me-lud, just fancy dressin' up nice for a change. Nice sunny day an' that sort of thing...., impress the crowds......, look the part........"
J:: Stop acting like a very silly boy Mr Biggun and start acting your age......... you can't just dress up in uniform wearing all those medals and fancy stuff, strutting around like you've deserved them or done something to deserve them.....
IB: Well They started it........
J: (snorting..........) What do you mean........, explain yourself man!
IB: Look at the trooping of the colour recently, they're ALL doing it...... the kids an' all your 'onour. There's more fancy dress there than a gay pride march and more medals dished out there than at the Olympic games, more gold and silver than an African tyrants bathroom fittings. Prince and princesses wearing this that and the other have never been in the Army or the Navy.
J: Mmmmmmmmmmm, see your point Ivor........ Case dismissed!
