Cannot read the maker but it is called "Hi-Speed Ready Strip" works in about 30 minutes. Depending on what your trying to strip I tried it on my Parker Hale stock and that stuff must have been factory 2 pack as it would not touch it.

I got it from Bunnings.

Any good paint stripper will remove the finish on the stock. The finish is probably just old built up and oxidized linseed oil, and if it's varnish it will make short work of that too. Be careful with it around your repairs as it will attack the glue too.

Ah awesome, thanks fellas. Lucky there seems to be no finish around where my repairs are. It looks like ancient varnish honestly. I'm wondering if this was one of those 'range pattern' MLE's which had SMLE 'H' barrels and cut down fore-ends. Looks like there is a little indent in the butt-stock that sits in the socket where a longer screw from an aperture sight plate has once been there.

Anyway, cheers. I'll try that and then get back to everything else on this old girl.

Now here is something else that has now sparked my curiousity about the butt-plate tang markings: That "RC" with the broad arrows. Has anyone seen that before? I was trying to think of what it might stand for and thought maybe "Royal Cadets" (Not sure if you can have Royal cadets) or something "Cadets" which would make sense on a DP rifle wouldn't it?
