Hi Alan

Happy that I have helped you update your records.

I am rather puzzled how a bipod would fit onto the Enforcer as there is no rail and a Harris Bipod would need at minimum a stud to fit it to the fore-end. I don't see how it could fit to the front band. Although I mentioned in my reply to Gil I wanted to keep it original, a transit case would be an nice addition as it wouldn't mess with the originality of the issued rifle. Do these ever come up for sale and what do they look like?

A simple button that the bipod clamps onto is screwed into the forend.

I do not have a close up, but zooming in (and losing much of the detail) this is the Bipod-mounting button.

There wasn't a recognised transit case perse...............most Police Forces opted for a black PELI style case with foam pre cut.

Good Day Gil,
A few years ago, pictures were posted on-line of transit cases attributed to Police departments. I was floored when one of them had my serial number, 547, marked on the outside. The number might mean something else but I'd like to believe its the long long transit case for my rifle and remains with a collector/shooter in the UK. The inside foam has been cut for a bipod which my rifle does not have. this could have been a later modification once the rifle and case were separated.

I'll get mine out tomorrow and take some shots for you with measurements if poss.
I was talking with Roger and Nigel about why some Enforcers had double lozenges where the serial number and other writing goes, only to find that the simple answer was some were Envoys first and the double cut was simply to cover up that fact and reinstate a new number.
Of course the easy print went directly onto the metalwork so there was no lozenge at all.
Enfields are a crazy rifle when you consider the amount of variations and tales and stories that go with converting them.
Worn out just listening to 4T conversions and all the stamps.............need a lay down now

I had 10 minutes so here it is with all parts as issued. Measurements really will come from the PELI case itself. The company who did the foam have long gone, so can't ask them for the drawing. Hope this helps, to my knowledge this was the second foam replacement too.

Another interesting fact (I have mentioned previously) is that having taken on the contract for 767 Enforcers, Enfield found themselves in the embarrasing position of having insufficient bodies (actions) to meet the contract.

All of the bodies and barrels they had were supplied to Parker Hale for assembly into Enforcers, and later, when they became needed, Enfield went out onto the open market and purchased secondhand / used No4 rifles from wherever they could.

This is why, in the higher serial numbers, it is not uncommon to find an Enforcer from any manufacturer and, probably, with its original serial number still intact. I have seen a number of 'Savage' Enforcers, and one Long Branch Body (which was in the batch of unassembled Enforcers 'found' by the RFD 'up-North').

Meant to say, you can see on my photo the brilliant work on the non slip carving by Colin Moon. I have only see one other ENFORCER rifle done like this, anybody else got any of his fine carvings on their rifles??
When you look at the HO contract to PH, what an absolute mess we were in those days!!
I am sure this was the same in many Forces, they bought more Enforcers than they actually needed as we did in Mid Anglia/Cambridge/Peterborough/Ely Police force, renamed Cambridgeshire Constabulary. I know who owns my original issue Enforcer and he won't part with it!!
