Clips marked "DAQ" were made on contract for the US post WW II. Dominion Arsenals Quebec sub contracted the manufacture out to Valcartier Industries Inc.

"H.A" marked clips were contracted to Horle Arms Co. in the mid 1960s, manufacture was sub contracted to a shop in Deep River CT. Used mostly for foreign aid. They are one of the few manufacturer codes still on the clip drawing. (F 6528288).

The code shown on the drawing for Aggressive Eng. Corp. (AEC)is their new code, ( post 1989 ), all clips manufactured by Aggressive for military contracts were marked AGE.

I can easily believe that as the only CDN property M1icon rifles we had were during our change over from .303 to 7.62 in about 1956/1958 and in CFE (Germanyicon). We had them on the airfields for local defense and had a shortage of ammo for the new rifles. The M1 was a stop gap and we of course could have purchased the clipped ammo from US supply. We made .30 cal ammo but it would have been simpler to just purchase ammo with the rifles. The rifles are circulating among collectors with an electro pencil acceptance mark. Most are like new.

The ones I was referring to are not surplus but fakes as they didn't hold ammo correctly.
    Regards, Jim
