The current grail guns for me are a nice No. 4 Trials rifle, a Con'd. Mk II, and a Con'd. Mk IV.

The unattainable grail (at least for now) would be the Turner SMLE. Gotta dream big!

Well, I have a Trials No. 4 on its way and succeeded in acquiring a ConD. Mk II & a ConD. Mk IV a few months ago, so I find I need to update my post on here! The next top three would be a .22 Short Rifle Patt. 1918, a Parker-Hale N.9, and an L8

A or B pattern ShtLE trials rifle, in original configuration. Both would be insane to hope for.

Holy Grail?? I know it is an older thread I`d like to get the stock for a Number 4 Mark 1 Long branch. Sweet Sporter however I`d like to return it to former Glory.

Well it's not actually an Enfield, it's a double barrel Hollis shot gun, with Damascus barrel.
    I suppose you are wondering WHY!, as it sits with my 2x Mk1 No3's, 2 x Mk4 No1*'s and my 2 x Mk5 No1's.
As it was used to kill (no apologies as I am not politically correct nor will be, as hammer is a hammer, nothing else) 3 Japaneseicon Prisoners of the 200 or so that had escaped from the POW camp In Cowra NSW Australiaicon. The escape happened about 5 am on the 5th August 1945 in the middle of our winter, 4 guards were killed as the Japanese stormed over the fence (they were well prepared as you can see from web sites, if your interested). The shotgun was in the hands of a local farmer out shooting rabbits with his son on that eventful day.
These 3 Japanese escapes were walking along the railway lines coming towards him and his son as the rail lines lead to major cities.
Any way Alf saw them and shot them dead.
My father a local gun dealer in the 50's and late 70's purchased the shot gun from Alf in the 70's before Alf passed away, knowing the history and significance of the Cowra Breakout in 1945.

There are several books written about the breakout. Some are full of mistakes, one claiming that my father drove one of the trucks to collect the captured escapes, but my father in our talks of the event never mentioned this fact.
I hoped you liked this story. They were different times then.

    MkI or MkI*?

These are awesome wish list! Hi! New member and new to collecting. Im an Aussie living in Chicago and want to start a Aussie Collection in Chicago - think it would be pretty cool. I learned to shoot the 303 in cadets looking for my first purchase. As soon as I think I am understanding this wonderful rifle I learn something new. My immediate goals are more straight forward: #matching, as original as possible collectible Aussie Lithgowicon WWII, WWI, 22 trainer, Boer (non lithgow, I know), L1A1 (not a bitsa, but original). Ive been learning for about 12-18 months....who would have thought how it sucks you in.
