You've just answered you're own question....
Supply and demand fix the price, and as you've worked out, the supply isn't there anymore, but the demand is, hence the prices are what they are.
Even rubbish ones are now selling for what good ones were a decade or so ago.
Just the thing for putting round holes in square heads.

They must be popular as I’ve seen a bunch of Jungle Carbines at the recent Louisville and Raleigh gun shows. Just a few Mk3s and Mk4s. I have no idea how legit they were as I don’t really know anything about them and was actually looking for a reasonable 1917 Remington Eddy. Might have a project gun lined up—like I need another project.
