Calif-Steve technically IS correct. They may be trash, but they are the government's property until turned over to the trash hauler, & then the trash belongs to the hauler. There is case law on this specific type of theft. The original case involved an employee who took pieces of Plexiglas scrap out of a trash can, & was charged & convicted.
I really don't care, but....they DO have serial numbers, they have been accounted for, & there IS a directive that they be turned over to the CMP
.

Sad to say, but these sound terribly like ex-US Navy ROTC weapons. They MUST be disposed of via Navy Regulations. I understand they are being shipped off to the CMP
.

they were signed out of the arms room for junk because they were missing screws and they were just welded at the tip with no plugs put in so the military didnt want to put money in to them so the bird said take them if you want them. I am in the military so I got these guns not stolen.

no matters...
likely the really could care less one way or the other...
i was giving a couple cannons by a VFW that was being torn down,
i got a bill of sale, and called Rockisland, as thats who gave them the guns.
and hears exactly what was said to me...
Sir, dont send those guns back hear, we dont want, or need them, they were scrap, and giving to the VFW to do as they wanted, basicly Garbage.
however.. do yourself a favor...and dont tell everyone you know, that you got a bunch of free rifles through a buddy at in the military, big ears, have big mouths... the less BS , the better..

If the rifles are from a VFW post, the odds are extremely high that they are US Government property & MAY ONLY BE RETURNED TO CMP
. If not returned, eventually they are reported for addition to the Federal stolen guns list. If in doubt contact Tom Whitten ( twhitten@odcmp.com )
