Hmmm, I had assumed since you posted these pics originally that the chest was yours. If I'm mistaken, my appologies. I'm looking for the dimensions for the sticker shown on the side of the chest in photo DSC01732-1 that shows the NSN of the L42 and the serial number of the rifle in both bar code and alpha-numeric formats, followed by a "receipt number" - whatever that is! If you happen to know the dimensions it would be a huge help.

    Cheers

A huge help for what purpose?

If to make new, then I'm not particularly interested in providing dimensions.

The case and rifle are still in my collection.

As found by Patrick Chadwick on eGun:

Photos from a Germanicon auction site.

The painted on markings are a little bit different than most:

    From this auction:

ETA: added Patrick Chadwick's thread link for more particulars, including comments by Roger Payneicon:

    L42A1 - genuine?

How much does the IWS weigh?
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

The L42A1 D71 markings are a local addition by someone with a vivid imagination. What a complete load of bollo....., er......... er........., rubbish. Even the most loopy or dozy storeman wouldn't do that. Some sellers think we're muffins! Just my opinion in my limited experience. I've never seen a serial number on a butt. Butt number, yes, but even the dopiest Arms storeman and Orderly Officer doing the weekly serial number arms check will know that if he looks hard, he'll find the master number on the body.
