Please! Jump in! I've been obsessed with developing long range cast bullet handgun loads for a while now, and don't know when I'll do another entry here.

Had another brief chance to work with the P14 - this time using the std ladder sight. Using HPX Mk7. I found that at 100yds the POI is 9 inches high and 3 inches right - so I went Kentucky - then "pulled" one!

Ill be back after some tweaking - no time this sitting. I have a +0.060" front blade installed - may try a 0.075" to push the muzzle down a touch on the ladder sight - this may afford me the desired couple more clicks depression on the PH5B also.

    P14 v No4Mk1T

Another nice day, with honey-do's complete - good for a break but not good for aches and pains (must be bad if Mrs B is sending me to relax). Anyways - wanted to get some HXP (1975 Mk7) stats from the No4 Mk1 T and continue to tune the P14 - is now together for what should be the last time for a while. So empty range, bright sunny day - 75 degrees F, light breeze blowing into my 7o'clock. I have been drilling with the P14 for a while and enjoy its mile long trigger first stage - which is tiny on the T - so had some "exciting" pullled shots . Will enjoy measuring and resizing the brass to see the difference between these two for chamber tolerance and case stretch. This should make 2 targets this year for the T.

    Hi everyone.

Here's a couple of groups I've shot recently on a day that I was driving tacks! (wish every range day was like this. They were all shot at 200 yards from a rest with a light 4-5 kph wind blowing left to right. Temp was 18-20 c. All rounds are handloads.

First up is my 1943 longbranch AG Parker target rifle. It has an S&K scope mount with a 4-12x40 scope. Rounds are 180 grain cast bullets with a gas check, with 13 grains of red dot.

    He's the rifle

    Group

My 1915 Ross Mk3 (full length barrel, full floated). 174gr hornaday bullets, 35.5 Gr IMR4895, cci200 primers, neck sized brass.

Group (she really can shoot!! )

    1861 Snider mk11* 3 band

Rounds were .592 lee real bullets, plastic 24g hulls, 70 Gr FFg. 100 yards for this one. Not the best group, but after a lengthy resto I'm proud to own and shoot her!

Attachment 47615Attachment 47616I jumped at a chance to get out at the weekend and so unracked the L1A1 to amuse the hunters who were tuning for opening season Ammo is Winchester X soft point - now back in stock at the local Walmart. I also had to spank the steel plates at 200yds to liven their day up. Other than the detail of exactly where the bullets landed, she performed flawlessly - which is all I ask of her

    Calico M100 - plink - varmint - target!

In the above post, I gave my L1A1 a workout, after tuning loads for my P14, then took to plinking with the Calico M100...100 rounds of .22 in the mag, 15 turns of the magazine dial and we were in business - tin cans at 10 yards fly with the green laser, 25 yards it is "stacking em" as a tack driver with a cheap reflex sight. 100 yards the reflex dot is as big as the 12" black center...I still cannot believe I found this when I got down there - 1.8MOA!...I then finished with a rapid fire series at 18" square plates at 200 yards (TDC hold) and got entertaining "spangs" after flight time...the hunters applauded BTW - this is supposedly the basis for the "space laser" that "Princess Vespa" used in "Spaceballs". I hope to bring it back next year on the competition format target.

Oct. 43 Garand at 100 meters

First target of the year, 100 meters, off a sandbag:

    Attachment 48657

The Garandicon was last used in a 300 meter competition in summer 2013. My empirical correction back to 100 was way off - hence 2 sighters (yes, really 2 in one hole). A correction of 1 click left and 3 up produced the 5-shot group in the 10. It seems I need the NM 1/2' correction, or some very delicate drifting of the foresight blade. Actually, I shall do neither in a hurry, since the competition was prone with sling, no rests, and there is a slight difference in POI to shooting off a sandbag. Of course, should I come across an NM backsight assembly (= unobtanium over here) then I could play with 1/2 minute adjustments.
