I have a BSA 1945 No.4 T (T.Lessscope), it had its chest, leather sling, Scout Reg Scope, and square Telescope tin and a No.32 Mk.3 telescope inside. The rifle had no “T” and no numbers on the wrist of the butt. I took it down the range for the first time and the reticule broke! As a young lad I was devastated, as it was an early 18th birthday present from my father, who said he would get it fixed. Having bought it from a very famous gunsmith, we felt it was worth preserving.

My father met with the Mr Laidlericon, and asked him if he could fix this scope? (not knowing he had written the book on the subject!) He said he might be able to.... when I when to collect the scope from Mr Laidler i showed him the rifle which, i took along with me. He as only he can looked at the rifle checked the bore, and told me that this was an original and too look after it, and NOT TO TOUCH IT!! As only an officer can. He said that although it wasn’t like the ones in “the book” , it was still original even with its mismatching No.32 Mk.3 scope.

I have taken his advice and never touched the rifle or the scope, and get much pleasure from its use even today. Sometimes its best left alone!! If your want an investment then i would agree wait until the perfect product appears. I have always consider myself the custodian of these weapons, and if I can pass them on to some who will enjoy them and look after them they will live on after I’m gone.

Peter, Give yourself some credit. Just think of all the rusted, knuckle busting, jammed and completely wrecked telescopes you've literally saved from the junk pile that are now back gracing rifles and spending fun days on the range. A friend of mine, (and yours), wife once said she thought you were a "national treasure" after a tour of the HQ,SASC, (whether you know it or not), and I tend to agree. Don't be embarrassed. Put your chin up like you're back at Sandhurst on parade!! Brian

I think that you wild Antipodeans and Colonials out there ought to give us poms a bit of a break. Things ain't lookin' too good at the moment. Weather bad, lost the Ashes, Pound is pxxs poor value and we're still in the EU. And as we're constantly reminded. When Britainicon was an empire, we were ruled by an Emperor, When it was a Kingdom, it was ruled by a King and now we're a country, we're ruled by David Cameron.............. So give us a break chaps!

Peter we should go to the pub and drown our sorrows together. We needed the Ashes win to hide the real pain left by the previous idiots in Govenment.
