It's like all questions. If you ask officially, you get the official answer from official documents. Like, say, asking a parking warden if you can just nip to the bank for a few minutes without getting a fine or paying for a ticket. He'll probably say something like 'yep....., don't be more than a couple of minutes'. All is well. If you write to the council, they'll tell you the correct interpretation in law. No ticket, NO park!
On that basis why don't we say that the No1 Bayonet is still in service because we had a dozen still on charge at Warminster, plus the rifles plus Brens plus L4's plus 10 Vickers plus.........

Aragorn243, a good replacement scabbard for the 1903 bayonet can be made out of a 1907 scabbard which are in plentiful supply at the moment on this side of the pond. All you need to do is to carefully remove the steel throat from the top of the leather scabbard and open out the aperture to take the 1903 bayonet which requires square corners to the opening to take the 1903. The 1907 has more rounded corners. At the same time reduce the length of the leather to an appropriate length for the shorter 1903 bayonet. It is a fairly simple job to do but just takes a little time and patience. Can any-one please explain why there seems to be such vast quantities of spare 1907 scabbards available; surely there weren't that many bayonets broken???

Spares, remember, scabbards wore out faster than bayonets.

Done! And while we're here, does anyone have a damaged but reasonably serviceable one with, say a broken tip or crosspiece, slightly bent, been used as a poker or club etc etc that could be used and marked as DP? Sensible price of course

They aren't particularly cheap or easy to find here but I will start watching. I need two or three to shorten.

Peter, do happen to know how the point tip of the D.P. 1907 bayonet differs from the front line version and also the blade length which is slightly shorter, I believe, please? If so could you please share the information with us. The reason I ask is that I own an "official" D.P." marked 1907 bayonet which some-one has ,unfortunately, "restored" by grinding the point back to the front line shape and I haven't been able to find out the correct shape that the point should be for the D.P. 1907 bayonet. thanks for any info.
