I wonder if somewhere along the line we have lost sight of the old proverb. '..............let's stop flogging a dead horse'. The barrel is what we Armourers politely call '.........shagged'

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. Unless its changed the Winchester superX 180gr softpoint is/was a flat base projectile? should be easy to get?

If you put a projectile down the muzzle backwards how far does it go in? (hint, picture)

My No1 Mk3 rifle did this at the range too at 50 yards. I was using Remington Core-Lokt rounds so, well I thought that was the issue.

The rifling on my Enfield is very good and my rifle was well taken care of. I would be surprised if it was the rifle itself...

I am indeed immensely grateful (truly) for the advice everyone has offered, but it looks to me that the barrel has indeed simply had it - workarounds involving custom reloads, scouring gunshows for half-century old military surplus ammunition and the like notwithstanding.

I'll have a chat with a gunsmith for his recommendations and keep an eye out for a good condition second-hand barrel (I'm sure they're about) in the meantime, I think...

Yeah, you said that before, but actual location would have been nice.
If you had been a bit closer I would offer to slip a barrel into it for you, I have a good barrel thats been modded to 7.7x54 that I would rechamber back to fullblood, it would sit 2mm shorter in the nosecap, but still protrude.

That is a damn shame. Voting is compulsory isn't it, so all the nitwits vote?
