    Seeing as that's 3 of us that have the circle mark stamped on our previously used L39 bodies. Could it be an inspection mark indicating it as being in suitably good nick to be utilised in the L39 program?

    Mine's got a similar circle mark of the receiver too Strangely and I'd be interested to know what it is as well.

    It's also worth noting what Thunderbox said in an earlier post regarding just how scarce the Envoy is, expect in Southern Englandicon that is!

    "The highest recoded envoy serial number is No 526 which is shown as being sent to Bisley although no date of despatch is recorded.

    Rifle A498
    (L39A1) was sent to store at Donnington on the 1st May 1970.

    But was A498 an L39A1, or an identical 7.62mm CONV also built in 1970? Perhaps they were both regarded as "L39A1s" for the purposes of "the system"?

    My 1970 "A498" has clearly been accepted into the military system, so the there would have been two A498s at if it also had an L39 brother built at the same time.

    I still reckon we won't see an L39 and a 7.62mm CONV with the same number, but it would be nice to prove it one or the other!

    Interesting that the top Envoy was 526; the 400s/500s seem to be very scarce on the ground. I'll ask to have a look at Fultons book and see if all these rifles ended up in circulation.

    I could be wrong but I think mine's (with half a circle stamp) a previously unused mk2 body guys.

    To throw a wrench in the works, I recently observed an otherwise standard Maltby w/ two of those odd circle stamps on the receiver. At least one was a full 360 degrees.
