A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Hi

I'm new to the group so I thought I'd make my first post. What bought me here is interest in the Sten. While I have a few other military firearms (nothing great) I've always admired the engineered simplicity of the Sten. I recently picked up a deactivated Mark II from Collector's Source as well as investing in my own copy of Laidlericon's book. It's a start. I figure this is going to be a great place to learn more. Until then I'll probably mostly lurk and absorb. As the old saying goes until I know more I feel it's better I be though an idiot than to open my mouth and remove all doubt. FWIW I'm in eastern Ontario.

    Cheers
    Daryl

    Post New in Illinois

    Hi all,

I have been a member for a while but not posted up yet. I made the mistake of getting my Class 03 ffl and my need for space has grown. Shooting is my hobby; rifle or pistol it does not matter. I shoot in an NRA Bullseye league but also find the time to reload & shoot my misurps. I belong to the Aurora Sportsmen's Club. Here is my partial list of my "babies". I love to shoot them.

Some days it is a tough choice on what to bring to the range, old or new. But this site has an enormous wealth of knowledge. Kudos all.

British Enfield .303 Identification Help Wanted

Hello to all. I am new to this site and I really don't know exactly how forums work, but I'm going to try to figure it out - - - eventually.

I have a .303 Enfield that I think is a No. 1 Mk III. I want to figure out what all the markings mean to determine where this rifle was manufactured and where it was used prior to getting it in the mid-1960's.

Here is what I think I know about the markings:

    FTR = Factory Thorough Repair
Englandicon = British Private Export, pre-1968
GR Fasco, 1918, Sht LE111: GR=Gurkha Rifles? Year of manufacture? ???
    Serial Number?: J (over) 58835
BNP (under crown) = Birmingham Nitro Proof between 1912-1954 (I don't know what Nitro Proof means)
Other markings that I have found:

    Crown over FSA
    M over R
    Crown and R4
    57

I would truly appreciate your help in accurately defining this rifle and hopefully tracing its ancestry.

Thanks in advance for your help.
