There was an amendment to the Canadianmanual on the Boys that continued use of the .22 sub calibre unit would "ring the barrel" or cause gas cutting of the rifling and their use was to be carefully monitored. Must try mine someday, but I still have a reasonable amount of .55 ammo, so why waltz when you can "rock and roll".
Very interesting Warren...I can't imagine .22 having the snot to gas cut...but there it is!
