Over 60 Spitfires found buried in Myanmar (Burma)

Well, there's no check in my mailbox.

I'll check back after the first of the year. I know you guys are busy. How about 9.5 cents on the dollar?

Burma. Heat. Dirt. Monsoons. And 60 years. Lumps of corrosion surrounded by rot.

Probably the data plates aren't even readable.

Build new. Fly hard until there's no more engines!

I used to be part of a tiny group of lunatics who built new P40 airframes. Completely interchangable with 1940s production. So old airworthy parts could be used if requested. But we even had forging dies cut and new steel forgings done. New Curtiss spec stringers extruded. There were new control surfaces being built in Poland for quite reasonable prices.

I´ve just about given up on my Po2 project too. Prices in Poland are no longer what they were. But mainly Euro bureaucracy has finished off veteran project building.

    Russianicon biplane?

ETA: brief search seems to confirm ID. I remember mostly the photos of the female Russian aviators with the Po2 as the a/c in the background. Lots of gutsy missions they flew!

Manddrake, You ought to read JMoore's threads regarding this subject and pass them on to the clown who is searching for these Spitfires. If anyone should know about restoring airoplanes - that is remotely restorable as opposed to 60 year ols heaps of corrosion, it's JM!

The Po2 (Podva) was a Britishicon biplane design, sold to tsarist Russiaicon previous to WWI. Redesigned by Polikarpov, it was made in large numbers by Soviet flying clubs and used by a famous squadron of women piolts as a night bomber in WWII.

Me with a very nice Polish glider pilot instructor
