My grail is still an L42 but I did recently upgrade my No4Mk1(T).



It took a long time for me to get my first one. Now up to two but I don't think I'll be able to afford many (any??) more. Considering what an L42 is worth I may never be able to own one.

I have been looking for a 1948 dated No.5 Fazakerley for the last ten years. Ian's first Lee book had a No.5 cutoff date of 10/47 based on a rifle in my collection. His last book was corrected because I found a 12/47 date which has prompted me to look for a 1948 date.

I must confess that I do enjoy my Savage No.4 Mk1 (T) serial number 0C1 and the Pratt & Whitney production trials No.1 MkIII. I never went looking for them, it was just being in the right place at the right time and knowing enough to know what you are looking at.

As a newbie to the world of Lee Enfields, my tastes are simple, and my budget does not extent to the outstanding examples of rifles previously mentioned in this thread, especially the No4Mk1(T)s and other sniper versions that have been shown on this thread (please leave some rifles out there for the rest of us, guys!!). My dream at this moment is a 1913/1914 Mk.III with cutoff plate and volley sights intact, and with matching serial numbers in all the right places. My only rifle so far (so I do not officially have a collection) is a 1914 Mk.III that was touched up to match the No.1 Mk.III* configuration at some time, and was rebarreled in 1937, but I love it because it is my first, and because it probably saw service in WWI and, maybe, WWII.

As for my dream rifle, I do have a perfectly functioning kidney that I don't need....
