Appraisal For Insurance Coverage?
I realize each insurance company will have specific coverage, but can anyone recommend an established source to appraise a rare firearm?
I'd rather not get into a discussion about the specific firearm, just looking to advise a family about determining a value for insurance purposes.
much apprecicated

Try one of the large auctions houses like Rock Island, Cowans etc. They provide appraisals and I believe all you will need is to send in digital photographs if needed.

When I did it for my own collection many years ago, I had a dealer I knew had been in business for decades come in and appraise each and give me a written appraisal for the insurance company.

I had a friend that had his insurance company send an appraiser around to appraise his collection. When they realized how many firearms he had they sent him a letter cancelling his insurance policy, their reason being that he was deemed by them to be a "Morale Hazzard". The letter was followed by a visit from the local fire department demanding to see his ammunition storage at which time he was informed that in the event of a fire the fire department would under no circumstances enter the building but merely provide fire protection to the neighbouring houses.
