To Dale Christopher Wolf LR Mag. Primers
Dale:
Received the primers this morning. The large rifle magnum primers have a violet colored primer compound. I don't like the packaging. Seems a bit cheap, but the primers look like anyother primer.
On the case it says KVB-7M Wolf NCLRM. One case was made 4-08 and the other 10-08.

Now this begs the question.........
......are KVB-7M's different than KVB-7's, reliability wise. Welcome, everyone to the "new" Jouster, as I am trying to get adjusted with the new format.

Yesterday I chronographed the Wolf LRM primers with my 7X57 cast bullet loads. Using the same charge as the Remington 9 1/2's, there was no significant difference. The fps spread was under 20 fps. What I did see though, is the indent in the firing pin on the Wolf primer was not as deep as when using the Remington 9 1/2's. Other than that I see no difference.

Of course you had to compare the KVB-7M's to one of the few primers.............
..........that I haven't had a chance to do a side-by-side comparison with! If the Remington 9 1/2 LR primers are anything like the 210M's, Br-2's and Winchester LR primers, then your findings seem to fall in line, velocity wise, when compared to the KVB-7's I have tested.

I should of told you the powder I am using, SR4759 which may not show a vast velocity spread, it's a very bulky powder and a single base.
I will take a 20 round box of Remington factory loads, 140 gr. psp's, pull 10 down, remove the primers and install the Wolf LR Mag. primers. I will resize the neck and put them back together and chornograph all and see if there is a difference.
I will also load up some normal 30-06 loads with 165 gr. core-lokts and see if there is a difference.
Will get back to you on Monday unless I get a chance to get out on Saturday.
It also depends on the flooding up north in Illinois, I might have to take a wee road trip and give my old buddies a hand with it. I guess over the weekend they were inundated with 3 1/2 inches, last night another inch and tonight another 3 to 5. Along with all the snow melt and the fact the frost is so deep this year, run-off is a big problem up there and those poor people are seeing flooding like they have never witnessed.
