The rifle is either authentic, or a very clever fake. I am unable to distinguish which.

Jim the link in the OP's post goes right to an M1903A1 with Unertl style bases but sans scope, mounts and CC.

That is Eric Hanson's old rifle that originally had USMC Unertl SN 2301 on it. To my knowledge, it is authenticate.

CC is the "carrying can" in which the scope was issued. Which brings a question to mind - were the cans serialized to the scope?
