I think you'll find mostly 1907 slings were still in use then. I think you can find canvas slings marked 1943 but not sure...I have a 1944...one WW2 vet stated he'd never seen web slings at all during the war.(on rifles)

Didn't the Marines use a pre WW2 pattern webbing sling? other than the M1928, they are pretty uncommon in the US but the Marines left a few here. Ive got one dated 1942. I forget which pattern it is and I'm not with my books.

Your sling dated 1942 is likely a leather 1907. Yes, there was a web sling M1923..Attachment 55734 and a Kerr web sling...Attachment 55735
I still think the one you want is the 1907.
