Hi, new Bren owner
Hi everyone,
Just picked up my first deactivated piece of history, an Enfield 1943 MK1 Bren BB1604 which I am totally over the moon with
Always loved the Bren and been pondering whether to take the plunge for years and finally did it this time.
What impresses me so much is the design and ease of use, compared to say the SA80 / LSW I used in the Infantry TA. Also being an engineer as well, it's a work of art in that respect.
I've just bought a replacement foresight guard and looking to give it a good clean up, I'm also really interested in the history of the weapon / men who used it I've already got a few books but looking to expand my knowledge - so any help / advice is welcome.

A lovely Mk1...thanks Jon. Yes, we'll want to see as much as you can show. There's a few here that will immediately help parse this gun with you. More pics is better...

If I was you John, I'd sit down at the computer, put the wife outside and the kids to bed, get a largish glass of the finest Scotch and start to read the Bren thread from where it started a few years ago. It's pretty fair to say that this forum lacks buillshi......., er......, bull or horse manure, old fairy stories full of hearsay or the other old hoary chestnuts that have been perpetuated about the Bren since Pontius was a Pilot!
Got that. So sit down, glass in one hand and mouse in the other and get readin' an' learnin'. You've got a lot of catching up to do but plenty of blokes here who'll tell you what's what........

Cool, thanks guys. I will read that thread sometime (plastering walls at the moment !).
Brit plumber, I am very jealous
It's nuts to think one time they might have been side by side in the factory !
Yes the gun does have a MK2 stock and MK2 bipod. Darn shame I cant fire one (I really envy those that can) - it looks and feels like a shooters dream.
I think the thing that really stood out for me was how quick and easy it is to strip and re-assemble compared to some modern rifles and guns.
A few quick questions about the gas regulator. Mine is fairly dirty and needs a clean but it seems as if the barrel has to be removed to separate the dial from the housing. Because the barrel and the outer flash hider sleeve are welded I assume this impossible for this deactivated weapon ?
Also how would the gas reg be adjusted, there seems to be a tab of steel from the forward area of the upper receiver locking it in place ? Would it be adjusted when the barrel is removed or can it be done in place ?
I'll get some more pics when I strip it down for a deep clean, as I say it's a bit mucky with oily dust at the mo.
Cheers !
