    Help with bayonet disaster

Hello. First time here hope you can help. Today I bought my first bayonet off ebay. It is my first time but the problems are it is missing the loop over the muzzle, expected rust etc after100 yes, no scabbard and biggest of all it is a bayonet for grwn up rifle and I own a short rifle like a carbine. It is a Austrian model 1895 knife bayonet. Is it possible to replace that loop? Is there any reason adjustments can be adjusted so it will fit. I think the bayonet shows lots of potential and my first. I dont have it yet but it does look rough. I am sure I will be back for rust and wood grips. Thank you and making progress on my 115 year old Steyr M95 Stutzen with a great new edition.

Hard to visualize, is this the bayonet?

Can you show us yours with the ring gone? You almost need a crosspiece to do a decent job. Otherwise you need one to cut off and weld on.

If it was mine I would use the Electrolysis method to remove the rust and you'll be amazed at how well it will clean up. I'd be inclined to leave it without a muzzle ring if it's been chopped off. To replace it properly you will have to dismantle the whole bayonet. It's an old bayonet and it will never look right if you try to make it look like a new bayonet.

First off it isn't a M95 bayonet, possibly was a M88 pattern bayonet (which are less common than the M95 bayonets). M95 bayonets are fairly distinctive due to the blade 'edge' facing towards the muzzle ring instead of opposite it as is standard for most knives and bayonets. The issues I can see is the muzzle ring has been removed, the blade heavily ground (and poorly done at that), as well as the rust and such on it. Generally speaking the removal of the muzzle ring and the heavy grinding of the bayonet don't make them good candidates for any sort of restoration as those essentially are what the bayonet is.

Secondly if your intending for a bayonet for your carbine you posted you likely will need one with the front sight blade built in for it to work properly. On the site linked below there is a example of such labeled a 'M95 Cavalry' bayonet.

    AUSTRIA

Value wise I haven't bought one in a while but last two I bought were 50$ each with scabbard, I can't imagine them going for much over 100$ at the moment.

If you have any questions feel free to ask, hope this helps.

I wonder if this one was modified to fit a K98icon?

It happens to everyone, I have a couple examples of bayonets I shouldn't have bought as well as a sword I shouldn't have bought. Now I am somewhat confident buying bayonets as I have generally a ok idea of what to look for (not a expert but I know where to look to find some information now). Swords I am still in the dark on and basically I refuse to buy as they are too much money for me to get burned on again. I normally just stick to rifles now as they tend to be fairly obvious as to what to look for.

It does hurt though. I have requested my money back and since it's ever maybe I will get it. Still would love to get one for my Steyr m95 Stutzen. It would have my work more complete. I guess stay away from ebay. Need one for my enfield too.
    Thank you for your assistance

Since I need bayonet a bayonet and stutzen I haven't even seen yet is a carbine acceptable? I want it to be right.
