    1941-date Mauser/Oberndorf Portuguese Contract K98k. (pics)

    Serial number- H 1707.

These guns were issued with matching serial numbered bayonets…
The bayonet with this gun is serial numbered H 19063….same “H block” but not matching. The scabbard shows H 63 on the frog stud.

This rifle certainly did not see much action..... the clear markings and finish on this gun are a testimony to that.

Many of these 41 Portuguese Contract guns are found in superb condition.

Supposedly some of the "G" block guns were diverted from the 41 Portuguese Contract for use by the Germans following the Barbarossa campaign.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I have a G block which was so diverted, Heer H on stock. No import marks, m/m but matched to itself, bolt. Typical bringback. It has an lower band and TG assembly that are also m/m to rifle but match each other. (TG parts all match TG and band.) This also occured when several GI's got to-gether and packed rifles for shipping and got each others parts mixed. I once purchased a rifle from a fellow worker who sent it home from Europe. Duffle cut, it had a laminate stock and walnut upper from band forward. He said that is what must have happened.
