    Funny story about Anniston

One of my dental patients and I frequently talk guns. He "lost" his carbine recently when a gunsmith went out of business and disappeared with his. So I encouraged him to buy one through CMPicon as he is a veteran, while he still can. He wife came in recently and kind of glared at me and said, "Well, WE went to ANNISTON!" I think she was a little miffed at me for telling her husband about CMP. "I stayed in the hotel while HE shopped... there really wasn't ANYTHING to do..." Anyway after a 13 hour drive there, and a 13 hour drive back, he came home with two carbines, one for his son, and a Garandicon; apparently he was not willing to wait for mail order. He was really adulatory about the helpfulness of the staff and how nice the other customers were. I found it interesting that he shipped the guns home FEDEX so he did not have to pay the state tax on them and saved money. Said there was no Carbine ammo available, and there were no 03's. I asked him about Krags and he wasn't sure. He bought a little '06 for the M-1.

CMPicon picked up a lot of Krags that the Army took back from Vet groups. Many are in poor shape. Stocks cut down, sanded and varnished. Some where chromed. Bad barrels like the M1917's from so many corrosive blanks fired thru them. YOu might find a good one thru hand's on examination. A mail order purchase would be a real gamble.

i went thru Krags at the North store in January, seemed to me that there were cut downs that looked like carbines but weren't, some stamped as movie company property and most had some part or another missing.I am not a Kragicon guy at all so I gave up fast and went back to the Carbine rack.

Hey Griff, Maybe your dental patient could contact the BATFE file a complaint for weapons theft. Might get his carbine back quickly.

'So I encouraged him to buy one through CMPicon as he is a veteran'

Is that all you need? What do you do, show your DD214?

Basically you need proof of citizenship #1 - your passport, birth certif., or voter registration card, #2 you need to be a member of a CMPicon affiliated club or organization (In Texas, the Texas State Rifle Association is CMP-Affiliated), and #3 evidence of firearms training such as match bulletins, classification cards, carry permit' or honorable military service; i.e. your DD-214. I missed out on a C-stocked 03 because I did not know you had to prove citizenship even if you are a veteran... First time I was ever asked to prove that even though in the "old days" I had bought two rifles from DCM. They will do a NICS check on you and if you pass, you may buy.

    Compare the CMP requirements...

with those for President of the United Statesicon!! Probably just as well that it's harder to buy a gun - I wouldn't want one in the Kenyan's hands, anyway!
