the M1917 saw service, from WW1 clear up to 1975.. if not by our guys, we gave thousands of them to China, Thialand, ect..just to name a few.
the best Viet Nam war trophys iv seen were 17,s first was a Winchester 17, fitted to a M14 stock, rusty and rough, with capture papers taped to the stock,
the second was a Winchester 17 all correct, down to the stock.
guy that has it is the one who captured it, has capture papers, and a nice blip about him in the USMC magazine dated 1971, with his mug, and rifle in the Mag..
he had lost the rear handguard, and a couple small parts, had me safety check the rifle, and match up the parts that were lost.
said the guy that he took it from , was shooting at them with the rifle, and no longer had a need for it lol..
