I have a very nice Chile 7.62mm conversion. Gew98, made by Steyr, pre-WWI. Rebuilt in the 1960's. Big 5 out West had piles of them 8-10 years ago. My rifle is near mint and I would value it at around $500.00. Is your rifle near mint? If in OK condition $199.00 is good.

No not mint! The bluing is about all gone, but otherwise it looked good even the stock was decent with only 1 gash that I recall.

There are some of those for sale in Canada right now in good+ condition. Model 1912, built by Steyr of Austria. The same place has the Model 95 long rifles in 7x57 as well. They have the standard lengths and long barreled models in 7.62x51. The only reason they are listed as good+ is because they bolts don't match. Just over $400 Can. The dealer is "Tradex Canada".

i have a chilean m98 in .308 too. it's very accurate at 200 yds, and i manage to win a medal w/it at camp perry every year. trigger is exceptional, bore is mint. bought it from a guy bringing it and a short rifle/carbine into a gun show to sell. total price for the two, $200. i sold the short one for $250. paid for my gas and the price of admission. btw, these conversions have a very tight bore!

I have a Chilean model 1895 converted to 7.62 Nato. It shoots great and is the only Mauser I own. I got from a guy getting divorced and he only wanted 125 for it w/bayonet. Sportsman guide iwas selling 7mm and 7.62 1893 and 1895 rifles not to long ago for 300. If it is decent the 199 is a good dealn

The Chilean Army converted most of its Mauser rifles into 7.62mm around 1960. Many were re-barreled, but not all. Some of the 1895 Mausers had a sleeve inserted into the chamber and the barrel bored out in 7.62mm. They are not desirable at all. The 98's with new barrels are serious shooters. I have one and now wish I had bought 2, oh well. By the way, I have heard Chile got all of the US Army 7.62mm Garands. Supposed to be still there.
