The problem is two fold. Gun Show sellers were buying the "cheap" ammo by the truckload, driving straight to the Gun Shows, not passing Go, and selling them for a heafty profit.

The little guys, like you and me, didn't have the chance to drive up there, (or, over there) so we had to pay the heafty shipping charges. Therefore, I seldom bought more that I could shoot up in a season, one bucket. Soon they were sold out, the GS Sellers were loaded for bear, and you and I was SOL.

Even though it's regrettable that it went up in price, a limit was a welcome sight.

OBTW, I lucked out and placed a small order a while back.

Orest says on the ammo forum that any orders in the pipeline will be sold at the old price.

Still the best deal out there for non-corrosive, good quality 30-06.

    CMP out of Ammo

Just what do you think the price will be once CMPicon runs out of the surplus military ammo?

If you don't like the price on the CMPicon ammo you don't have to buy it.

Price raises on anything from the CMP usually means the stuff is running low. I suspect the end may be a lot nearer for the current stock of CMP ammunition than we thought mostly due to retailers and hoarders buying up the stuff.

As I have said on numerous posts in the past if the CMP dosen't cease to exist totally it may soon cease to exist as we know it if/when the Army cuts off its supply of firearms and ammunition. That's all its going to take for the gravy train to end gents.

CMP gets its rifles from the Army, but not ammunition. It procures its own ammunition.

You are correct of course on that. However, don't be surprised to see limits on the import of military ammunition though. They've already done that with China.

If the CMP goes back to buying mil spec ammo from a civilian contractor like they did with Federal a few years ago expect to pay at least a dollar a round.

This is in part a block of the bulk buyers (gun show sellers). This was bound to happen. We'll still get it cheaper than the GS sellers would sell it to us. Also, look how everything else has gone up in price. Looks like we may just be seeing the effects of capitalism hard at work! And a little Obamabidenphobia

The limits will have little to no affect on the gun show sellers. They will just get their wife, kids, etc to buy their yearly limit. It may slow them down alittle but they will still be selling at shows. Everyone was whining about it well they got their limits and a price increase. Be careful what you ask for next time
