1916 Spandau Gewehr 98
Haven't posted anything here in a long time, figured I'd share this one.
1916 Spandau. Matching everything, down to the action screws. Has a nice clean bore. Stock appears to never have been messed with.
Unfortunately the bolt is out of a Kar98a & the sling is probably Yugoslavian. No cleaning rod either. Not duffel cut either.
Headspaced good with the Kar98a bolt & shoots right well with PPU ammo.

I ran into a Gew 98 about two years ago that was the spitting image of this one, right down to the kar98a bolt.

Whatever you do, don't clean it more than that. Might have lived with a Kar98 at some point and the bolts were swapped by perhaps heirs who didn't know any better. Ask around if you can.

“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”
Edward Bernays, 1928

I've no intention of cleaning anything past the bore after shooting. I still use Balistal for that even. No harsh chemicals for me.
Jeep is an 83 Cj5 thats been a pain in the butt from the word go. To the point that I got 2 more to fight with also.

I agree! That coloring and patina is exceptional and I would also leave it as is.
