From what I have been able to find out these were left over original parts assembled by the Chinese for export. I bought one as exactly that for my son's birthday years ago. They all came into Canada in one rush and were brand new looking. The scabbard is the colour of paint the Chinese use on various weapon parts too. Some had handles painted too.

In my Opinon, this are fakes. I have owned & handled a fair few Jap blade over the years. The ORIGINAL variant of this sword, SHOULD have an Alliuminium Grip. NOT Brass. The stamped markings should be On the Blade Ricasso area. & most of those shown, were on Arisaka Bayonets. The Habaki (Brass Chape on the Blade near the grip) Was NEVER stamped at all. Neither was the collar fitted on the grip. These Swords when ORIGINAL, were indeed serial numbered at the factory. But only the blade & any componants matching numbered. Would be stamped with the numbers in an area where you could NOT see the numbers. Apart from the blade, you would only see these neumbers if you dismatled the sword. This Pattern, was an NCOs version. (Warrant Officers) An Actual OFFICERS Sword was deferent in a LOT of ways. I will not go into detail on this, as it would take too long. & is a very extensive list of details for a Different Pattern altogether.
I hope this helps you? These fakes are still freely vailable from china today. Albeit, they have corrected the grip metal to correct Alliuminum.

I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I was saying these are original. They were assembled by the Chinese for export...for people who can't afford the original.

Regards,
Jim, Applogies, not nessacary. We all have to learn something in a LOT of areas! My personal thoughts are,'Well, they have gone to a lot of trouble to copy these swords. WHY didnt they do it right first time? IE: the grip being made from Brass, instead of alliminium? A lot of time wasted on a reasonable copy of the real thing that is spoilt by the lack of attention to detail.'
Still, I suppose Labour & time is not an issue in China!

Jim, You missed my point! You said in your post that these were ASSEMBLED from left over parts. Giving the impression that the componants were original
I TOTALLY dispute that, & Reitterate. They were MANUFACTURED Copies & TOTALY FAKE!
I hope that clarifies things for you.
