100 yard sight zero possible?
Is it possible to do something with the M1917s rear sight enableing you to zero it at 100 yards with out guesstimating or using the 6 0-clock and similar procedures? I finally got a good load worked up but I can't hold my groups together past 50 yards for anything.
Is there anything I can do?
I've seen in a past post there is the Parker-Hale 5B but I'd have better luck finding an original 03A4 in my fruit loops.
any other peep sights available for the M1917?

Remember the zeroing takes place with the front sight. To move the MPI left or right means moving the sight, up and down means higher or lower sight blade. I haven't seen anything in the way of a peep like the PH series that didn't require a major mod of the rifle. If you measure the sight height, maybe someone will have different height blades.

About measuring the height of the front sight, from what point do I start to measure? are taller sights available?

Enfield foresight blades fit in the P14 - and therefore in the M1917.
You can almost certainly improve your grouping by reducing the size of the backsight aperture. No rocket science necessary! I just used Pattex (= Thixofix etc, i.e. an impact adhesive) to glue a washer with an approx. 1.3 mm hole over the backsight aperture. Then glued a 1/8" slice of rubber grommet (i.e. a ring section) over that to provide a shade and improve contrast.
The Pattex (or whatever type of rubbery glue you use) is strong enough to hold the components quite securely, but you will still be able to remove them if you need to, without any damage to the bluing of the backsight leaf.

Do I measure the blade itself or the entire sight top to bottom?
Are all enfield sites the same? reason I ask is I found a sight set of 5 different heights but they are for the no.3

Did the same on the rearsight without the rubber piece and it works great.

If you get the books by Charles Stratton you can see that there were differences, and Peter Laidler once presented a very learned posting on this topic, but as far as the M1917 is concerned, the SMLE foresight inserts will fit.

Good question, I'm not quite sure, which is why I recommend that you search out Peter's posting, which is on the Enfield forum.

If you look at the front sights you can see there are thicker bases and taller blades. Measure the entire front sight height and you can figure out which ones you need. Peter Laidler can give you the sight numbers off the top of his head and further info. Just PM him.

I'm curious as to just how high it shoots at 100 yards when the sight is set on "2" (leaf up!). Don't worry if its 2-3" higher than your point of aim, that means its probably spot on! Folded down, the rounds will probably print 8-10" high if its properly sighted.
Regardless, if you know the amount of error its easy to calculate the amount of sight height change required, depending on the sight setting used. Test at 100 w/ the leaf up and set on "2" and then measure the distance from the point of aim to the center of the group, no matter its size, and get back to us. Also get a cheap set of calipers to measure sight heights if you can. The blades are SUPPOSED to be of uniform height, its the base tops that vary. Doesn't work out that way all the time after many years being out of the armory system, so...

my group at 100 yards set at 200 is 3-4" high
my front sight is
.102" thick at the base top
.143.5" (blade only)
.350" wide (base)(side to side)
.322.5" tall (entire sight)
.404" (base) (front to back"
