Need help with a Flea Market 1903 find
Can someone give me an idea the value of an 03 with the SN 355xxx or 335xxx? I saw it at a flea market this week and guy wanted $300.00 for it. It was is pretty fair shape; the worst part being that the stock was split from the pistol grip all the way back to the butt plate. I am new to the 03 types other than marching with one in USN boot camp back in 1968. Any help will be appreciated.

About $XX5.00 - the point being that the entire serial number would be nice for a search for value, as well as barrel date etc. For $300, I would buy it if the barrel was in very good shape.

Jim, I did not have long to inspect the weapon as I got there just as the market was closing. The seller said he'd be back there next week and I plan to be there too. Any key things to look for besides the date and condition of the barrel?

At 300.00 you cant get hurt too bad.If its a Rock Island then its serial is high enough to shoot,if a Springfield it falls in the low unsafe to shoot range, below 810,000 .Check the bore, and does it still have the date right under the front sight? If not the barrels been cut down.Even with a split stock if its a finger groove it could be repaired.could be lots of neat stuff here for 300.00,you just need to know what your looking at.Also check for signs of welds around the cut off switch on the left side. The split stock is a sign of a drill rifle that has been slammed on the ground, not good.
