03 ad in 1959 National Geographic

I was surprised to find a gun ad in a 1959 National Geographic. They had 03's for $39.95 (which seems pricey, and no mention of high or low number!) and Norwegianicon Krags for $24.95, if memory serves. The incidental use and carrying of guns was often featured in the NAT GEO articles of the "old" days. Now - not bluudy likely! I can't post pictures, but a selection of gun ads in unlikely publications would make a great post for someone inclined to do the research. Rick, mebbe?

Now I have to dig out the old copies. My father joined the NGS in '58 and we have almost every copy still.

I remember walking into a surplus store in Jacksonville, NC in the late 50's and seeing a couple of wooden barrels full of '03's. IIRC, the sign on the barrel said $15.00 each.

There were and are a lot of 03's around Jacksonville. One just has to know where to look.

Hey Howard, how are you doing? I didn't know there were any GOOD Enfields, but I will look around my usual suspects. Being between Camp Lejeune and Fort Bragg does have its advantages.

Ran the $39.95 on an inflation calculator. That is $283. in 2007 dollars.

That is a better price than the $400.00 CMPicon, but it was not a give away.
