Additional Rem 03A3 Buttplate info
Notice in the third photo that there are weld marks showing on the outside on either side of the trap pivot area. None of the originals I have show this mark.
So, is it a reproduction, post WWII contract piece, or original???

Are you sure? I see nothing in that third image that looks like a weld.

There is a dot on the right side of the pivot part of the trap door which corresponds with the location of the weld on the reverse side, and on the left side of the pivot part the checkering is distorted which corresponds with the other weld. The distorted checkering doesn't show up well in the photo, but the dot does. Also, look at the impression surrounding the crease in the trap. I have not seen that type of mark on my other 03A3 buttplates. You can also see that the top surface of the lower part of the trap is flat. All of my other examples are rounded.

You should put up others for comparison.
Often production is not perfect, like a stamping might be off, or the checkering may have had a piece of steel in the way when it was cut. We were fighting a war and variations were not a reason to reject something that would still function.
