U. S. S. 45 acp sn.1075xxx
After examining my U. S. & pistol more closely & replacing flannery barrel with a HS barrel, I have observed that the P proof is on top of the slide centered. Some information say that it
should be on the lower part of slide. What is the correction orientation of this proof mark in this serial number range? Also barrel bushing is void of maching marks as some reference material says it should exhibit, what is correct. a
Any input on these two item will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Over the years I have owned or examined literally hundreds of US&S pistols. Every one that I felt was original, showed spiral machining marks on the face of the barrel bushing. Here is one I just acquired and is posted below.. Also, most had the ringless Keyes stocks. I have found the "P" proof slide location to be all over the place......

Type I No P Firing Proofs slide or reciever 104xxxx to 105xxxx serial number range.
Type II Hanging P Proof LH side slide 106xxxx to 107xxxx serial number range.
Type III Centered P Proof Top of slide 108xxxx to 109xxxx serial number range.
These ranges are approximate, and I have seen some overlapping over the years. Most examples observed will hold true.

At that serial number, just verify the finishes on both slide and receiver are original and matching, and verify the "P" proofs match exactly. The "P" on the slide might be on the side, centered or anywhere in between at that serial number.
