    3 newer No.4 MK2's

I own 3 Enfields and would like to find out some more info on them. The first is a 1953 SN PF268389 with interesting hard wood inserts and has an import mark with no serial number on the stock. Next is a 1955 SN A.5763 with no import marks, however, the stock has the SN stamped under side just back of the band. The 3d one is also a 1955 still in the "cocoon" SN A.21286. I was wondering if the SN 5763 was at one time a cocoon rifle? Also the font is different on the metal parts from 1953 to
1955. Were these rifles made for different contracts? I have fired the SN 21286 and it is nearly MOA at 100 yards even with my tired old eyes! This is my first post here as I just stumbled on to your web site. Regards, Rick.

Yes, your rifle was a cocoon rifle, They all started out that way. The wood insert in the stock is a factory method of converting a Mk1 stock to the Mk II type. They were trying to use up the old stock they had. Don't try to change it out, it is a variant you need. Yes, they were made for different contracts. I don't have my list in front of me, but there is a PDF on the web that shows which serial # range was purchased by what country or entity. (for the PF's, anyway). Nice rifles!
