    M44 Russian-trigger spongy

I recently acquired an M44 with a bad trigger. The previous owner never noticed it the way he shoots. I decided to buy it anyway because the price was right even with the problem, and that is that the trigger pull is TERRIBLE.
If you attempt to shoot it properly i.e. squeeze the trigger, it is very (and I mean VERY) SPONGY and will not fire. If you yank the trigger with more force, it will fire, but it's gotta be a quick jerk to do so.

I should have enough skill to repair/replace any components. I'd like to get an idea where to start though. Has anyone had this problem? What are the possible causes of this?

    Thanks.

After checking to make sure the striker has been screwed far enough into the cocking piece, I'd pull the bolt assembly apart and check the insides for grease or dried oil that may slow the striker. Next would be to replace the striker spring itself. If all is well with the bolt, then pull the action from the stock and check that the sear spring screw is tight.

If that doesn't do it, please let us know what all you found. Spongy trigger pulls aside (really, that's normal), they rarely stop working altogether!

Sorry it took so long to answer, haven't looked at this forum in a bit!

Also, if you don't get it sorted straight away, try a post in the Sovieticon weapons forum...
