CMP Inland here! Early Christmas

Got my CMP Inland racker today. Yippee! Stickies work! It is serial No. Range 3,09X,XXX. Barrel Inland marked 12-43 (same month and year of my Underwood). Needs cleaned up, but here is what I have so far at first glance.

No rust or pits, and looks to be more than 50% finish. I don't have a muzzle gauge, but a GI M2 ball still shows just over 3/16 inch! BORE IS BRIGHT AND SHINY WITH CRISP RIFLING, AND CHAMBER SHINY. It has a Type two flat bolt and Type II slide, recoil spring is great (still 10 1/4"). Trigger guard is a SG type III from what I can see, with lots of finish on it. Has flip safety and a Milled type II rear sight lightly staked in place. Bayonet lug band has finish the same as the rest of it.

It is a GI Type III walnut stock with a beat to death butt plate, but it has been sanded down a moderate amount, and no cartouches left. Initials carved in in two places. Probably why it is a rack grade. Judging by finish (old Linseed) it was sanded long ago. It has some nicks and dings, but nothing horrendous. Two rivet matching handguard. We will see if any traces of cartouches show up when I saturate it and clean it with BLO & mineral spirits mix. When I detail strip it, I will give a run down on what else I find.

My Underwood has a complete type III Inland trigger guard assembly that is all correct for this serial # Inland, and I may put it on the Inland and take the SG group and put it on the Underwood. We'll see.

I am a HAPPY man! Best $419 + shipping I have ever spent.

Some corrections: The slide is a type III (not type II) Inland PI and the Bolt is a type two flat "A.I.", the ejector is the correct type I. Hand cycling, it snaps easily over rim, and ejects smartly to the front at between about 1-2 O'Clock. Recoil plate is a type II Winchester with "W".

It is nicer than I thought! I think it was a re-park, as it has about 85-90% charcoal gray oxide finish (including trigger guard housing assembly) underneath the cosmolene and grunge! Apparently it was done before the type III band was put on, though, as it has old patina like my Underwood.

The type III magazine release has the M, but no other markings. Blackened, like new. Hammer, blackened with "S." Sear type III with "G.B" (dot is midway between top and bottom of G and B). Trigger, Type II "LT" or "L-T," but didn't see a "Q."

I am going to leave the SG trigger group on it. One, it is part of the history. Two, the oxide finish matches perfectly. Three, it has the sweetest trigger pull of any M1 carbine I have ever shot, with the exception of the un-messed with Winchester I let get away in the early 80s.

PS, my wife is already ****ed because I am showing it more attention than her!

Tomorrow I will start BLO-ing the stock.

WOW!!!! Borrowed a ME gauge. The Racker is a 1+!!!! maybe 1.25, but not even a 1.5. The bore and chamber are pristine. Man, I am usually not lucky at anything, but I sure lucked out on this. I'll be happy with a kinda ugly stock in trade for this! Heck, my Underwood is an ME of 1, and that one is a shooter, so imagine this Inland will be too!

I think you should contact Charlie and see if he has a nice stock you can make a deal on. It sounds like your new baby deserves a pretty stock.
