Pattern 1913/Model 1917 Bayonet Help
Greetings Gang
Picked up this interesting bayonet off epay and was wondering if anyone out there had any knowledge about it.
The bayonet is an unmarked P1913/M1917 bayonet fitted with P1907 grips in overall fair to poor condition. It has been cleaned at sometime as shows pitting over all the metal surfaces. This pitting does show that the blade has always been unmarked and the rust on the screws along with the grind marks on the screw ends/nuts show that the grips have been on for a very long time.
My first guess was an Afgan copy but the pommel and lock nut quality is very high, second guess is an unmarked South African example, but if I remember correctly their blades are a little shorter than standard. My final guess is a lunch box special, but that would not account for the P1907 grips and having the screw ends ground down along with the corrosion.
Any guesses out there??
