Enfield stock care
Recently I wanted to do some maintenance work on the stock of my No4 mkI* rifle. I want to darken the handguards for just a little bit without removing the original fishish. So is this possible with some kind of red brown il or something?

btw I don't want it to be very shining, just want to darken it for a little while keeping the original and classic look of a milsurp rifle

Try to find an alcohol based stain. It will still work if there are traces of the original oil finish still present in the wood. Make sure you wear gloves using it as it'll stain your hands for a month!

I would seriously consider just stripping the stock of its oil/dirt/sweat/blood whatever and staining with a Spirt based stain and topping it off with BLO
or RLO. I know you'll get much better results then trying to stain over the existing finish. The end product will retain the original look but be stained, guys here have done it to their rifles countless times. The problem you will find trying to take the "easy" route will be anything you use wouldn't penetrate and will rub off in some spots and remain in others leaving a blotchy finish.
May I suggest "Chestnut ridge military stain" for the red/brown color you seek.
