    Another New Carbine Addition

Picked up another Carbine for my collection this week. Saginaw S.G. Found this in local internet Gun Site on an estate sale. It was local to my area here in Texas, so I went for it. Person running the Ad for client told me his father brought it back from the War. Met the seller FTF and bought it after inspection. Seller told me his dad was an MP in the war and brought this home along with a 1911 45 which is for sale also. Came with a vintage 50’s vinyl carry case, and 3 magazines full of Ammo. Head space good on No-Go guage, ME a little over a Zero. After breaking down and examining, it was apparent this gun had been in storage for a long, long time. I had to soak the barrel to get the barrel piston unfrozen with WD-40 and air gun to cycle the piston. It is free and loose now. All 3 Magazines were full with WCC-43 Ammo, and appeared to have been in there a long time (springs are toast now). A little disappointed seeing that it had a Rockola rear flip and front sight., but after investigating in war baby there was lateral support from Rockola on Front Sights and rear bases, leaf is unmarked so I looked through some archives in CC newsletter 319 and Carbine of the month had a Rockola front sight and tells of the lateral support. All parts to this carbine look original to the gun and look to be correct. There is no staking on the receiver. For the price I paid (Lucky 7), there was no way I could pass on this, and it gets me 1 more closer to having all for my Modest collection. I need a S’G’ and an IP.

    Jim,

I did not take the 45, I just put a picture of it in here. It is a Remington-Rand.

Sweet S.G. I have 3341xxx in original condition. The parts in our trigger groups match, right down to the lack of finish and "N" or "Z" on the hammer. Same bolt, op slide, barrel band & barrel as well although my rear sight is in the white and has an "S", otherwise unmarked.

Does anyone know the potential build date for this Saginaw? I hate trying to figure Saginaw born on dates.

When I read your original post, I thought, "should have got the 45 too." But, after seeing some mods on the sights, trigger, and grips - I'm kind of wondering about the finish also. It looks kind of shiny for parkerized - what did you think? Are those some of the reasons you passed on it? Thanks - Bob

I didn't have intentions on buying it, but the Ad did say, the owner had some custom features added to it! Still, a nice looking piece.
