Chilean Mauser ?
I am completely unfamiliar with the Mauser family, but I had my interest piqued today. Ran into a guy with a Chilean Mauser, stamped as made in Berlin, with "Modelo 1895" on it. It had a little stamping before the serial that appeared to look like some kind of shield, like a police/army shield. All numbers that I could find matched, the bore was in great shape. The wood and blueing of the barrel were excellant. Everything was nice and shiny. He had it marked for $250, but wanted to let me have it for $175. Then he showed me the gun price book that everyone has except me, and it appears to be worth around 300-450 in it's current condition. Is this price worth it? He wanted cash for it, but I didn't have that on me. I got his number to go get it from him in a few days if it's a good buy.
Awaiting your esteemed thoughts oh masters of Mausers

for that price I'll buy it if you wont.
an all matchign mauser, un-bubbad, for less than 200 sounds like a great deal to me.

I have one of those…
They're beautiful pieces, if in good condition...
1895 Chilean Mauser (Mfg by Lowe)
I haven’t had the chance to prepare a library entry for it, or even shoot it, but it' scheduled for adding to the Milsurp Knowledge Library in the next month or so.

Thanks Badger. In all the pics I'm seeing, the one that I am looking at does not have the fore-end upper wood guard over the barrel just after the crest stamping. Not that I remember anyway. And it does NOT have that crest stamping there at all. It's just a bunch of seemingly random jumbled numbers and letters or symbols. On the bolt when you pull it back, it has the double-hammer symbol on the left side. It seems odd that it doesn't have the crest, buy every pic I've seen on a Chilean has that rest on it. Maybe this one is a slightly rarer variety?
Got it today. In all the looking at it, I somehow forgot that some dope had put scope mounts on it. No wonder I didn't see the crest on the receiver !! I'm gonna remove the mounts. Any hints on how to fill the holes?
